Inspiration

"May today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others. May you use the gifts that you have received and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content with yourself just the way you are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us"

50 Shades of Red

Today was the final day of my mini beach vacation. Unfortunately, I suffered some sunburn while laying out yesterday. I am always diligent about reapplying sunscreen every hour, but yesterday I fell asleep unintentionally and burnt to a crisp! It's one of those terrible sunburns where any sudden movement is painful. I have been applying aloe around the clock and am taking frequent cold showers. I came home today, and Ryan told me I looked like "50 shades of red." What a comedian ;)

Speaking of Ryan, tomorrow marks SIX years since he joined the navy. I am so proud of his decision to serve (and continuing to serve) our country. He signed his contract at age 17, and left right after graduating high school. I've seen him grow so much over the years, and I feel that the Navy has helped shape him into a wonderful man with dreams for a successful future. I made him a little treat to share with his coworkers tomorrow.

It's hard to believe its Friday already tomorrow... but maybe that's because I spent all week being a beach bum. I'm heading back to work tomorrow. Ry and I have no plans for the weekend as of now, so it will be interesting to see what we end up doing. The forecast looks lousy, but I'm hoping for some sunshine so we can head to the pool. Happy early weekend y'all!

From the Beach

It may only be 9am, but it's already in the 80s so I am camped out at the beach! My coworker and I took a few days off this week, said goodbye to our men, and headed to Ocean City, MD. Thankfully she has been here before, so she's been acting as our tour guide as well. I have been to several beaches on both coasts, and this beach falls right into what I have experienced for the east coast. It's relatively commercialized, but the sand is soft and the water is refreshing so it will do to satisfy my beach needs for the season.

I'm not sure what it is, but I feel most at peace when I am near the ocean. I can fully relax and reflect on my life here, which is something I can't always do at home. I've been trying recently to meditate and manifest, and I have found the easiest place for me to do that is near the ocean. I brought my latest Nicholas Sparks book, suntan lotion, beach snacks, and music, so I am set for the rest of the day. I will probably take a dip pretty soon to cool off.

In other news, hubby and I officially bought plane tickets for our 2 week adventure to Europe. This is something we've always talked about doing, and now that our plan is in action I am feeling super excited and blessed. I've been in a funk recently that has left me pouting and being a little crankier than necessary at times. It's so easy to get wrapped up in small issues and deflect from the positives in life. I don't want to waste any moment sulking in petty issues, and so I really need to work on maintaining a positive attitude as much as possible. I hope that the ocean air allows me to clear my mind of negativities and allows me to focus in the positives in my life. I am so, so blessed with opportunities, a job, a wonderful family, group of friends, home, and most importantly a God who loves me unconditionally. I've found that life is much more pleasant with a smile on and happy thoughts looming, so that is my prayer for this week.

Summer is Here!

Happy first official week of summer!

Hubby and I took full advantage of the beautiful weather and spent lots of time outdoors. We both took Friday off and went camping at the Navy rec center in Eastern MD. I was hesitant to camp on a military base as opposed to a national or state park somewhere, but Ryan convinced me we would have a great time (and he was right!) If anyone is stationed in (or visiting) the DC area, I highly recommend visiting this place! During our stay, we received unlimited stops to the adventure center, mini golf, pool center (with 2 water slides), and fitness center (of course - military always reminds you to work out, even when vacationing!)

It was the perfect amount of roughing it (tent sleeping, cooking over a fire) and relaxing (laying out by the pool with a book, walking along the beach). We bought our tent 4 years ago, and this was only the third time we used it! We had so much fun though, and need to put it to use more often.  I definitely see us visiting this area again. It's really awesome that places like this exist for the sole purpose of entertaining military service members and their families. It felt wonderful knowing everyone there had some connection to the military community.

It's back to work tomorrow for us, but only two days this week for me! I'm heading to Ocean City with a coworker on Tuesday. If you can't tell - I'm a beach kind of girl! Can't wait to soak up more sun and touch my toes to the ocean!

June Happenings

This month has been very busy for me so far... and not the "busy because I'm doing so many fun activities." I've been working 4-5 days a week (12 hour shifts) almost every week. Next week is my last week of overtime, and then Ryan and I are going camping next weekend. The following week, I am taking time off and going to Ocean City, MD with a coworker... I cannot wait to soak up some sun and breathe ocean air!!

So really, I have nothing new to report on. On days off, I am usually hanging out at our community pool with a book or some music. I can close my eyes and pretend I am on a beach in socal... hopefully next summer I won't have to pretend.

Today hubby is at some sort of car race, so I am chilling at home. I can't remember the last time I had absolutely nothing to do, nowhere to go, and nobody to see. It's been very relaxing. I plan on going for a run and tracking it with my new nike fitness app (if you're a runner - get this. It is free and awesome). I may cool off at the pool after. Tomorrow we are meeting another couple for brunch in DC. Then it's back to work again on Monday! The weekends fly don't they?!
