I am 25!!! Eek!! For whatever reason, I was super excited for my birthday this year. Maybe it's because my birthday was on a Saturday, and Ryan and I had a 4 day weekend so we celebrated it the whole time! We went out downtown in the Gaslamp District, and I rode a mechanical bull for the first time. We went to Extraordinary Desserts with my brother and his girlfriend fiancee (I will get to that), and saw Wicked for the 3rd time! We also hosted "Friendsgiving" at our house. My friend got a camera on Black Friday and we modeled for our Christmas Card photo

But hands down, the most exciting part of my weekend was being part of my brother's engagement. How exciting!! This is one of my favorite pictures that I've ever taken!

I really need to write more because I feel like I just summed up way too much into one tiny post!! Little by little, I will get better at this! Hubby got me a new macbook air for my birthday, and its so cute and easy to use which should motivate me to blog some more :)

Today I vowed to stay home and not leave the house... I was doing so well, until 9pm when I decided I needed starbucks. Boo!! How hard is it to stop an relax and do nothing?! I've got another busy week ahead of me. I am hosting Christmas and need to get ready for my family to come!! This is the most wonderful time of the year, indeed!

I'm in a funk... an uninspired funk. I literally have been running nonstop, working all the time, and loading my weekends full of activities. This weekend, I broke that cycle and chilled out. We decided to decorate for Christmas!

Long story short, we obtained a second Christmas tree for free... but ended up sending it on our curb for another military couple.

I don't know what it is but I loved opening all of our carefully packed ornaments, and knowing that they made the cross country trip safely. It makes our house here really feel like home with all of our family decorations!

While decorating, Ryan and I decided we wanted to get ourselves some early Christmas gifts. We booked it to the Nex, where I think every other military family was having the same idea as us, because it was packed. I usually go there on weekdays, so I was not used to the zoo that it turned into!

This past week, we also celebrated Veterans Day! We decided to go to Temecula for wine tastings and a winery tour. We had a great time!

And how crazy is this... I've accepted another job... ON TOP OF MY CURRENT ONE. Yes I'm crazy. I already complain about how much I work, and now I'm adding another day a week. While we are in southern California and childless, I want to make as much money as I can... At least that's what I'm telling myself! I don't start until January, but I'm sure I'll have lots more to share with that!

Have a great week y'all! Thanks for keeping up with me even when I disappear!!!

I always feel awkward coming back here when I haven't written in a while! This is supposed to be my journal they I reference when reflecting back (I actually was just looking through old posts), but it's hard to do that when I write nothing!

So let's rewind. I went to visit my sister in Denver the last weekend in September. It was really awesome! I haven't spent a lot of time in Denver, but it has a lot to offer as far as activities and fun restaurants. I am so happy it's a quick 2 hour plane ride from here! Can't wait to go again. While we were there, I indulged on a pair of Tom Ford sunglasses that I've been drooling over for months. They are super unique and unlike any other pair I've owned, but I love that they're flashy and fun. Anyone who would pay $400 for a pair of sunglasses is nuts, but I don't claim to be sane!

I lovee them! I also finally upgraded my 3.5 year old iphone 4 for the new 6. It was time for an upgrade, and I am pleasantly surprised by it!

Work is... the same. I am getting closer with my coworkers though. Last night 3 of us and Ryan went to dinner, and then rode the roller coaster in PB.

I'm still falling in love with california more and more (if that's possible). I've got some big changes planned for myself, too. I'm trying to get back in shape and live a more natural, healthy lifestyle. I'm working the next four days, but I really want to get back into blogging and sharing my journey as I become healthier!

And it wouldn't be a complete post without one cat picture. Look at this cutie pie!!

Weekend Roundup

This past weekend was all over the place. We went to the Speed Festival on the North Island naval base, which my husband loved. We saw the movie Maze Runner which was really good. I can hardly believe it but sci-fi is becoming one of my favorite genres! Sunday we celebrated my brother's birthday with some Korean BBQ. I also went to a Padre's game with a coworker, which was fun... and the Padres won! Of course there was the traditional weekend grocery shopping, cooking, and cleaning...

I seriously need every Monday off to actually relax and not do anything ;) alas, that's not a reality. I worked today, and work everyday through Thursday. Friday I am heading to Denver for a weekend with my sister! I haven't seen her since she got married in July, and I am looking forward to it very much! It's so nice being so close to my siblings!! Have a great week y'all!

Heat wave

There is quite a heat wave coming through San Diego right now! I've never been so thankful to go to work (where the AC is so cold you need a sweater). We are keeping our fingers crossed that it's almost over, because we don't have AC at our house since normally, you don't need it. I wish we had it right noe though, especially since I'm off today. It's hard to be productive when it's 90 degree in your house! We are currently camped out in our office where we have a window AC unit.

Today I was off, so naturally I went to the beach to keep cool. It's turning into my normal routine. I especially love going during the week, when it's quiet and secluded.

Dinner took place at our favorite fish taco spot, PB Fish Shop. If you're local, it's a must. Make sure you try at least one taco with the fish shop seasoning, omg... it is THE best. I'm so happy we were introduced to this spot, because it seriously is so good.

And you know, just in case I need a reminder of how close I am to the border, I got this text message. I have yet to go to Mexico, which is funny since it's closer to me than where I work even.

My poor sweet pea is probably wondering why it's so hot! I keep finding her in dark corners of the house... I think we are all ready for it to cool down a bit!

Dinner for Four

Today was amazing. I'm beginning to realize that any day I go for a swim on the beach, the day is amazing.

Knowing that parking is competitive at my favorite beach, I left the house at 9:00am and was at the beach until 3... 6 hours! Granted, I went for a long walk, got a milkshake, and swam... And I didn't get a burn! Wins all around. While at the beach, I came up with my grocery list and decided to invite my brother and his girlfriend over for dinner. They follow a gluten free diet, which is no big deal cuz I've been following one too.

Fast forward and my brother tells me they are following a paleo diet... So I immediately had to switch up my menu. It's pretty crazy that with all of our diets, we could still have a meal... And even crazier that I could actually prepare it seeing that I'm a novice in the kitchen! The menu was accommodated a gluten free vegetarian (me), two paleo dieters (and no gluten or dairy... not sure if that's paleo anyway or not), and a carb loader (my husband). The meal included "build your own" burgers, with most of us doing so on a bed of lettuce. If you're me, you skipped the burger and went with a fried egg. David and Marlene had an egg and burger pattie for some mega protein.

Side dishes included the easiest, yet yummiest veggies: baked broccoli and baked brussel sprouts, seasoned with garlic, sea salt, and pepper. Yum! No leftovers of those!

Dessert was good old fashioned fudgesicles from whole foods. They are seriously my favorite, and for 100 calories you can't say no... well you can, if you're on a paleo diet... Sorry guys!

I'm still learning this whole "entertaining" thing, but I'm pretty pleased with tonight's cuisine!

Introverted Extrovert

In general, I identify as a extrovert. I'm relatively outgoing, talkative, and love being surrounded by people. It's one of the main reasons I became a nurse and why I love it so much! The funny thing is, I still have days where I want to hang out... alone. As in, go to the movies alone, go out to eat alone... stuff that people do with their friends, I need to do solo on occasion. Today was one of those days, but it really was one of the best days I've had since moving here!

Pacific Beach may be one of my favorite SoCal beaches. It's not for everyone, but I'm obsessed with the restaurants and stores on the boardwalk. It just has that beachy feel to it, and it makes me so relaxed and happy. Rather than ask a friend to join me there today, I went totally alone.

I walked all the way from PB to la jolla... Which is a hike! But I was on the water, watching surfers and hardly seemed to notice. As I was walking along the shore, trying to take in the beauty that surrounded me, I felt such a sense of peace and contentment: this is what life is all about. I was able to gather my thoughts and truly relax while hanging out with myself. Actually, I think I needed today. I have been packing our weekends full of activities, but I really needed a day like today!

Of course I swam in the ocean. The water was amazing, and felt good in contrast to the 80 degree weather. Look at me, already spoiled by the westher here and thinking 80 is unbelievably hot!

I am so happy to be in Californiw, close to the water. It's where I feel happiest. This really is the best!

Runners High

Y'all!! I did it... I ran my first 5k!! I am NOT a runner, but it's something I've always been interested in pursuing. After the 4 mile race I did a couple weeks ago, I felt slightly defeated. I didn't get that satisfaction feeling when crossing the finish line, but that's probably because I walked most of it! Not this time. I really wanted to run the entire time, and I did. The best part was that my hubby was there, and ran with me most of the time. He would run ahead, and come back and see me, them bolt ahead... He was so supportive and encouraging, and crossed the finish line twice to be with me when I crossed it! LOVE!!

Now I need to decide what I'm running next! AND I'm in the market for some new lulu clothes since I'm making this more of a hobby ;)

After the run, I came home and crashed for like 3 hours. When I woke up, I got groceries and came home and made the easiest gluten free cookies you'll ever make.

Gluten free Peanut Butter Cookies

1 egg
1 cup white sugar
1 cup peanut butter

Mix all ingredients in mixer. Roll dough into ball shapes and place on cookie sheet. Use a fork to flatten out. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes, or until bottom is light brown. This recipe yields 14 cookies, so I doubled it. I also had to keep mine in the oven a bit longer. They are really yummy though!

Have a great week!! I have Tuesday off this week, yay!

Friday, September 5, 2014

I have no complaints. This week flew by... and here we are again, Friday! Does anyone else get a little extra bounce in their step Fridays?! If you're going to give me bad news, Friday is definitely the day to do it... Mondays are the worst!

Ryan and I are running a 5k together this weekend! Since arriving to California, I've really tried to get more in shape. I'm watching what I set, and trying to exercise regularly. Did I mention that I got an elliptical?! I sincerely hope I can push through the 3.1 miles on Sunday and not give up to walk at all! I know I can, mind over body.

Let me be perfectly blunt about my next topic... I'm so sick of having acne. I'm turning 25 in November, and I would really really love to have a clearer complexion! I don't have a super severe case, but it pretty much always am breaking out around my chin. I don't want to take anything harsh, so my sister sent me some face wash and cream from the Medispa where she works. I'm trying my best to get this under control!

That's really all I have for now, but I wanted to pop in before I get busy this weekend and forget to blog! I use this space as a journal for myself that I frequently reference to reminisce about what we've been up to, and it's no fun to look back and see hardly any posts! Here are a few pictures of our home before I go. Have a great weekend!

Staycation Part 2

Next weekend Ryan's "running" a 5k with me. That means he's going to drag his feet to stay with me during the run, lol! But we decided t do a little run yesterday, so we woke up and did just that. Yesterday was very relaxing. We cleaned a bit, did laundry, but our real focus of the day was our couple's massage! We found our spa on groupon a while ago, and we love them. It's on Coronado Island. It's only $118 for a one hour couples massage! A steal for how amazing the massages are!

We went out for dinner, and got semi involved in a "dine and dash" attempt made by a pitiful young lady. Sooo shitty that people do stuff like that!

Today we deep cleaned our entire house. Buying cleaning supplies is one of my favorite things to shop for. Seriously, they're always making some new "miracle" cleaning agent and I get suckered in! It feels so good to have a freshly cleaned home! It's crazy how much dirt can hide on surfaces without you even noticing.

We had friends over for dinner, and then I caught up on some trashy reality TV. AND our amazing, 4 day staycation has come to a close :( it's back to work for us tomorrow! But in an effort to be more positive, starting the week on Tuesday makes the next weekend even closer. All in all, I'm in love with my hubby, our home, our Poshcat, and living in San Diego continues to be a dream come true for us! I can't think of a better place for us to be right now.

Staycation Part 1

What the... tomorrow is literally the last day of August! Everyone's mourning the end of summer and school starting again, and I'm just like "I live in California, it's always summer here." Ok, ok... so I know that's not exactly true, but I can bet my bottom dollar I won't need to use a snow shovel or brush this year, and that's truly awesome.

Our "staycation" is well underway! Yesterday we went to Sea World, using our free passes. I can't believe the entry is normally $84/person. It wasn't busy at all, and we had a great time. We followed with dinner at our favorite fish taco place in PB.

Today we woke up early and tried out some Stand-up Paddleboarding. It was Ryan's first time, and he did really well! We went for a solid 2 hours. We then went to a classic diner spot in La Jolla, Harry's. We got milkshakes and then came home and watched a movie. Tomorrow we have reservations for a couples massage, and then we will probably relax and clean the rest of the day. We still have all day Monday too! Four day weekends are seriously the best. I wish they were all this long!! So much time to have fun, be responsible, and rest!!!!

PS just warning everyone that my visor is probably going to be in every picture from now on. I spent weeks looking for one I liked, and then ended up getting it on ebay... I love it and am probably going to end up getting a few more!!

California Fun

I have been bad bad bad at blogging! It's funny because I have been super active and busy, but I just have not disciplined myself to blog about it! Last weekend was my first 3 day weekend since we have moved to San Diego. I am learning to get out of my comfort zone and hang out with people when they invite me! If I have learned one thing about Southern California, it is that EVERYONE is super active, and it makes sense since there are so many outdoor activities to do here! This weekend, I went stand up paddleboarding for the first time! I seriously LOVED it! I went with one of my coworkers who goes all the time, and we had so much fun. Seriously, if you have not gone you need to. It was so relaxing and I cannot wait to go again!

Saturday, Ryan and I went to Pacific Beach for brunch and walked around the boardwalk. I love boardwalks, and PB is definitely in my top favorite beaches in San Diego. It has that real beachy feel, with surfers and dive bars and restaurants steps from the beach. I already want to go back there again!
Sunday was my first race... 4.2 miles to be exact. I have already signed up for a 5k in a couple weeks, and Ryan is going to join me on this one! We then went to dinner with my brother and a group of his classmates.

This weekend was one of those weekends that I packed so full of activities, that I did not give myself enough time to stop and relax! I just finished working 4 days this week, and am so excited because Ryan and I have a 4 day weekend together! After much debate, we've decided to stay in our salty city and explore. We thought about going to LA, which we haven't done since last time he was stationed here, but there is SO much to do in San Diego that we haven't done yet! LA is on the to-do list! Can't wait to share what we end up doing here!

My First Race

I am just NOT used to working 4 shifts a week. I loved working 3 twelve hour shifts in DC, and calling it a work week! I did do overtime for a while, but it got tired of that and stopped. If feels like I'm doing it again though since I'm at work 4 days a week! Anyway, that's to blame for my lack of blogging... and my lack of household chores, cleaning, cooking, and laundry... oops!

I am excited to share that I have a 3 day weekend this week! I working today and tomorrow and am off until Monday. You'll never guess how I've decided to fill my time off! My coworkers have basically forced me into running in a 4 mile run. I reluctantly signed up. I need to be honest though... I hate running! I have an elliptical and do that regularly, but running is another story. This should be interesting!  I have no shame in going slow or walking though! It'll be fun right?!

I have never been a runner, but I would like to run at least a half marathon in my lifetime. Maybe this will be the push I need to get on the running train! I will keep y'all posted... and for now, I will enjoy shopping for some cute workout clothes!

This is all part of being in california I suppose!

Safari Park

Sorry if my last post kept anyone hanging! I am still getting used to my work schedule, and work life in general. We've done our best to keep busy and have fun on days off, though! This past weekend, we went to the Safari park with my brother and his girlfriend. None of us had been before, and there was an awesome deal on groupon so I got 3 tickets. Ryan got in for free (same with the zoo) which was great. I LOVE how with such a big military presence here, it seems like companies go above and beyond to thank them for their service! I'm so proud of Ryan's service and I love when others are too!

And just to add to the excitement of last weekend, We discovered Posh has fleas. She's never around other animals and doesn't go outside, but apparently this is a problem in San Diego. After a quick call to the vet, we have the problem under control... but I'm still grossed out and sad for her! She seems to be feeling a lot better!

AND finally, after having to get a rental car for 2 weeks, our other two cars arrived in San Diego!

I'm off work today, and I'm so excited it's almost the weekend! So maybe this post was more than just the "safari park," but I've never been good at titles anyway... Happy Thursday y'all!

Funky Town

I just typed up a huge post, and then decided to save it as a draft. Maybe I'll share it another time, but I'm hoping I won't. I'll explain another time.

The weather this weekend was atypical for San Diego. It was gloomy, and then I felt gloomy. Ryan and I made plans for a couples massage Friday, and then when we got to the place they informed us that they would have us get our massages done next door to each other. This isn't a big deal, but that's not what was said over the phone... so we left. After calling legit every spa in San Diego, we finally found one that had an opening for us. It was on Coronado island, and so we spent early and spent some time there.

See how gloomy and grey? It was windy too. Come on california, I'm in a funk and needed sunshine to get out of it!

Well, the sunshine obviously wasn't available, so I took the next best things. Cupcakes and flowers.

Oh, and this too... Our first time. A california must. Don't be afraid to go #AnimalStyle

And with all that fun, it's already Sunday evening and past my bedtime. I spent all say cooking meals for Ryan and I for this week. That worked out for us last week, so I'm trying to stick with it. Please send some positive vibes my way. I promise I'll share what this funk is about as soon as I can.

Sunday, July 27, 2014

Geez, now that I'm back in the workforce weekends are flying by again. But that didn't stop us from filling ours with fun AND productivity!

Yesterday, we biked from Imperial Beach to Coronado Island. It was a really nice ride, and one we want to do again. There's tons of parking on the IB side. The ocean breeze kept us cool, and we got lunch in Coronado.

We then went to my brother's house to meet his new 3lbs chilahua (omg. heart. melted.) and have so,e amazing fish tacos. So yums! We played uno afterwards (it's becoming a tradition) and enjoyed coconut milk ice cream.

Today I went grocery shopping, then came home and legit spent all day washing/cutting/cooking and/or freezing vegetables. I made a pasta salad, mango salsa, and froze green beans and broccoli. I also made Ryan and I smoothies. I'm trying to be a better wife about cooking, and with all of the yummy organic options here in Southern California, I'm finding the "task" quite enjoyable.

But of course, all good things come to an end. So tomorrow is back to work for the week! Have a great week y'all!
